Custom Wood Library
This project is 'dark n' sultry', yet creates light.
The "Home Library" was originally an enclosed porch. The house was built in 1929 and is a scaled down "TUDOR" style house; limited to an all brick veneer. The front door porch is elliptical with flutted columns and the "Foyer" is to scale, despite its economy. Ironically, October 1929 was the historical year of the financial crash on Wall Street, which contributed to the "Great Depression of 1929-33.
One of the challenges with this project, was to make the house feel classy, and enhance its original design with "neo-classical" approaches.
PREVIOUS door to the library was a traditional 15 Glass Panel Door, used as a 'Patio Door', back doors or "French Doors."

The NEW DOOR JAMBS or cased opening was made 15" Inches Wide, creating the illusion of an entrance thru a sacred portal into a sanctuary or temple. The door opening architectural details consist of "Base, Flutted (6") Casing, Various Stop Mouldings, and a Three (3) piece Crown Moulding."

Designing, making and finishing the furniture was a joy. The old porch was not square at all, therefore caused us to think "We didn't know what we were going to do next, until we did something, then figured out the next task." We were forced to modify the design slightly and not lose the original intent. Modesty aside, after the completion of this "Home Library" we sighed relief three months later.
